MAX FRICKE (pictured) has won the Australian Championship after fending off an unbeaten performance from Rohan Tungate in the final round at Kurri Kurri to take the title.
Fricke held an eight-point lead in the standings going into the decider and, despite Tungate rattling up a perfect score, did enough to secure his first national crown. Fricke said: "It's awesome. I'm stoked to get the championship. The win on the night would have been a little bit sweeter but Rohan is super-quick around here. So to get second to him is no bad thing. "I felt good all night, felt like I had good speed. The whole championship, I felt pretty good. "There's not much rest. It's pretty quick, home for a bit now the weather's nice and can relax a little bit and do some training." "¢ REPORTS AND PICTURES IN THIS WEEK'S SPEEDWAY STAR
